KOMANI – Runaway fires in the Eastern Cape have destroyed hectares of grazing land, killed hundreds of livestock and destroyed crops as firefighters battle to contain blazes fanned by high winds.
Teams from different local municipalities have been deployed to contain the fires in the Chris Hani District.

While the weather shows no signs of rain, authorities have warmed residents and motorists to be extra vigilant, as thick smoke spread towards the N6, causing impaired visibility for motorists.
A Komani farmer in the Eastern Cape, Sisonke Hinana says the fire has destroyed hectares of grazing land for her livestock.
She says there’s currently no electricity on her farm due to the wild fire.
The province has been plagued by wild fires, exacerbated by strong winds, in the past two days.
